I hope everyone had a pleasant week! Now that it's full on fall, I'm already doing my best to stave off the incoming winter blues and the winter fat. (Though, a little fat is a sign of a good time, so I'm not gonna fight it tooooo hard.) ConEd has been doing the most extreme construction directly outside my window all week, so my cranky levels have been higher than usual. Nothing like being woken up to the sound of a jackhammer three feet from your head at 6am! Usually I'm up before Theo so he isn't exposed to how unpleasant I am in the mornings, but the construction has been waking both of us up, and Theo has had to endure my disturbed morning anger-grunts all week, poor thing. I'm sure as a small boy he dreamed of having a loving partner who responded to his inquiry of, "Shall I make you some tea?" with a despondent wail and pout.
That, combined with an almost crippling case of Imposter Syndrome that I'm still dealing with, has made me extremely glad for the weekend. The projects that I needed to finish are done and turned in, and I am going to let them go. I think being almost paralyzed with fear about an impending project is almost worse than writer's block. Even when I'm blocked I can usually pull something out of my ass to keep me going until I can look at it with fresh and inspired eyes. But the feeling of being so overwhelmed with fear about my own abilities to carry out a piece of work that I've been hired to do wipes me out completely. My only coping mechanism is to curl up in a little ball and sleep. But, it's passed and all is well.
I can't wait to sleep in sans jackhammers and get in some good Maeby cuddles, eat that pear and blackberry crostata I made and have barely been able to enjoy, and get a good brunch in. It's hardly the weekend without brunch, now is it? I'm hoping to see my cousin who is in town from Mexico and maybe even get out of the city for a bit! I hope you all have absolutely lovely plans and that they include equal parts fun and relaxation. Here are some links for your eyeballs and a little ditty for your heart!
