I binge-watched Caitlin Moran's new show, Raised By Wolves, last week and as a result have been calling all babies my "babbies." (Please don't ask me how I watched it, as it has not yet aired in the U.S.) Caitlin Moran is one of my favorite writers. Her book, "How to be a Woman" is a must-read for all ladies and the men who enjoy living in the world with them. She writes so beautifully of her wacky childhood, and has a deep respect for her own children as individuals. She'll make you want to stand up on your chair and shout, "I AM AN ARDENT FEMINIST!" But I digress.
This post is about sunblock for your babbies. Summertime is coming up, and I cannot stress how important it is to smother your babbies with sunblock within an inch of their lives. I have a lot of thoughts about sunblock for grown-ups as well, but this post is just for your babbies.
We are obviously all aware by this point that sun damage is long-lasting and starts as soon as you're out of the womb. It's crucial to stay on top of your babby's sunblock game. Not only is a babby with a sunburn a truly sad sight to behold, but can you imagine having your skin hurting and not know why?
The following is a list of my favorite sunscreen for your babbies, hope it helps in the coming months!
Sunblock sticks are perfect for touch ups on the go. Throw it in your bag so that you can re-apply it throughout the course of the day. It's really convenient on those long days when you're out of the house and you don't want to lug around a full size bottle of liquid sunblock. You WILL inevitably spill it in your car or bag. That's just a disaster waiting to happen. California Baby products are natural, organic, and very gentle on delicate baby skin. As a general rule, I trust the quality of all their products and appreciate their commitment to using safe ingredients.
The Honest Company is another brand that provides safe, non-toxic, high quality baby products. This product is great because it doesn't leave those horrid white streaks all over baby's skin, it's water resistant, and it's unscented. This would be my first choice for a pool or beach day, as I've found that most popular name brand sunscreens come off in water unreasonably quickly. It's also super affordable, which is always appreciated.
The genius part of this sunscreen is that it is an oil, and not a thick cream. If you've ever attempted to put sunscreen on a baby or toddler, then you know it's no easy feat. I've yet to meet a child who doesn't wiggle away while you apply it, making it impossible to know if it's on evenly. This oil goes on so smoothly and quickly that even the quickest of squirmy toddlers won't get away before you get it all on. It's made of natural oils that are super gentle on baby's skin and contains no parabens, sulfates, or phthalates, so you know there aren't any scary ingredients going on your baby's precious skin. This has actually been my go-to sunscreen since last summer when my mom gave me a sample. I wear it under my makeup and it's not greasy at all. I love how absorbent it is!
Here's hoping this week is sunny enough to warrant the use of sunscreen for all!
