At any given time, I have 3-6 different foundations or tinted moisturizers in my makeup rotation. I've found that the more options I have, the more I can work with different looks depending on the occasion. I like mixing it up every once in a while, it helps me from getting in a makeup rut. These are my four go-to foundations right now, and I love each and every one of them for very different reasons.
I've been using this CC cream for about a year and half, and it truly lives up to it's dark spot correcting name. It's creamier than a BB cream, so it has a thicker coverage and it erases sun damage spots and freckles. I use this foundation primarily in the winter, when I want heavier, more even coverage. It's slightly dewy, but not as much as the other three foundations, giving me the most matte look of the three. This also photographs really well, and I would recommend wearing it at any event that you will be having your picture taken at a lot, such as a wedding. It really has a good, long-lasting wear, with lots of radiance.
This is my everyday foundation. You know I love my little babes, but I most certainly am not going to show up for a day of rolling around on grass and sand with 40$ worth of foundation on my face. This is the most affordable of the bunch, and the one I've been using the longest. As soon as the BB cream craze started I jumped on the bandwagon, and after trying several, this one was the clear winner. It has very light coverage, so my freckles show, it evens out my skin tone nicely, and gives a very fresh glow. It's also important to me to have SPF while I am out and about. I always apply sunscreen, but it's nice to have a little extra in case I forget to put it on before I go outside.
I have gone down the Glossier rabbit hole and I don't care if I ever come back. As a long-time reader of Into the Gloss, my precious little heart was thrilled when I heard they were creating their own line of skincare-based, cruelty-free beauty products. To say nothing of the fact that their marketing strategy has been absolute genius. I bought it hook, line, and sinker. So I can't tell you enough how pleased I am that their products have lived up to the hype. This skin tint is build-able so you can choose how much coverage you get, has the silkiest finish I've ever encountered, and gives a truly beautiful, healthy glow. This would be my daily foundation if only it had SPF! But what's perfect about this is that it blends really nicely with other makeup. I have blended it with both of the two tints above, and it gives a soft, airbrushed finish. It's perfect for a summer night when you come home from work, and have ten minutes to get ready to go to happy hour. Smash it on your face for some serious magic-hour sparkle.
I comes in as the most expensive of the bunch, and unfortunately for my wallet, my favorite. I use this on the weekends when I want to look my prettiest because honestly, this thing is a miracle worker. It does for my face what having eyelash extensions did for me, which is to make me look like a Disney princess. (I didn't even know I wanted to wake up looking like a Disney princess until I got eyelash extensions, you guys, but that's another story for another day.) Intellishade has a thicker and creamier texture than you would imagine from a tinted moisturizer, but it delivers on the dewy front. It has the most skin-perfecting power of the four of these, but looks more natural and glowy than the Smashbox CC Cream. In all honesty, I'll probably ditch the CC cream once I finish it and just use this one for weekends and special occasions. It is worth every penny and I cannot say enough good things about it. You will pry it out of my cold, dead hands. If you make only one expensive makeup purchase this year, then this should be it. What are you using these days? Any recommendations? I went into Sephora the other day and slathered this all over my face, so I'm pretty sure it will be my next conquest.
