My Secret Weapon

In the spirit of full disclosure, I will admit that I have relatively low-maintenance skin. I've always been aware of this, but never more so than during my teen years when my beloved friends were suffering with skin issues and I only had to deal with the occasional small pimple. I'm so grateful that I never had to deal with acne scars or painful cyst-like underground zits. I am fully aware that this is the result of genetics and luck. I certainly wasn't doing anything at the time to warrant such easy skin.

But, when I was in my mid-twenties, my skin went absolutely bonkers. From what I've seen with my sister and friends, it seems to be a common occurrence due to hormonal changes during that time. I lost my fucking mind. I had never dealt with problem skin, and all of a sudden I had near constant, painful breakouts along my jawline and cheeks. It seemed that no matter how hard I tried to control it, my skin was always incredibly oily. I went to the dermatologist and several estheticians but no matter what I tried, my skin had no chill. It was really bad for almost a year, until I discovered the simplest, cheapest solution and I haven't stopped using it since.

These facial cleansing pads are under 5$, and can be found at your friendly neighborhood Trader Joe's. They are made with witch hazel, tee tree leaf oil, chamomile oil, lavender oil, lemongrass oil, golden seal extract, ginger and water. Basically, all my favorite witchy ingredients. They are super strong, so I have to hold my breath when I rub it all over my face and I avoid my eye area as well. It basically acts as a toner - I actually haven't used a fancy toner since I discovered these, though I do spritz myself with rose water and aloe spray after I use them and before I begin layering my potions on.

I always recommend these to my friends who are having temperamental skin. Use them in the morning and at night before your regular skincare routine. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic, so it will simultaneously soothe and disinfect without stripping your skin of it's natural oils and cause more damage. And you really can't beat the price. This is one of those products that is so cheap that I use it to justify my pricier beauty purchases. It's all about high-low, right? It's also ethically made, with no animal by-products and not tested on any animal friends!

Even if you don't have skin issues at the moment, I recommend running out and getting one of these to replace your toner. They're also super convenient for travel! Have you ever used them? I actually love Trader Joe's beauty products, it's a small selection, but they're worth checking out!
