I'm always on the hunt for skincare lines that are cruelty-free, ethically made, and really high quality. It's harder to find than you would think! Which is why I was so excited when my friend Sydney, an Arbonne representative, asked me to try a line of their skincare products. All Arbonne products are vegan, preservative, paraben, and phthalet free - among other things. Seriously, the list of things Arbonne skincare DOESN'T have is the longest one I've ever seen! All their products are botanically based, so you know there's no creepy-crawly ingredients in there that could cause harmful reactions. They have a strong commitment to creating products that are safe and effective.
Sydney popped over one morning with a kit that made me happier than a kid on Christmas morning. I opted for the RE9 Advanced Anti-Aging Collection. Within 24 hours my skin was already looking brighter and I felt like I could get away with going outside without foundation of any kind. It just looked and felt healthier! Here's what was in the kit:
The cleanser was incredibly rich and creamy while feeling super luxurious and also being super effective at getting all the makeup and grime off my face. I sometimes have to wash my face twice when I get home from work because I'm so grimy after chasing the babes all day, but I only needed a pearl-sized amount to feel really clean and refreshed.
The toner is a nice citrus-y mist that puts a bit more moisture in your skin and prep it for the rest of the products. It's a really nice base for your skin, and helps seal in moisture. I'd put it in the fridge for a really great cooling sensation.
I was initially really skeptical of the serum because it's a bit thicker than most serums I've used and has a slightly sticky texture, but I am pretty sure this is the secret ingredient in the kit. In general, serums are the new magic potions in cosmetics, and if you aren't using one you don't know what you're missing. I'm fairly positive that I can attribute the glow I woke up with every morning to the serum, and if you only buy one thing from the kit, this should be it. I could seriously feel it working on my skin, and even after just a couple of days I could definitely see it.
I'm always highly skeptical of vegan and non-toxic eye creams because I feel like in general, the area around the eye is the most difficult to improve when it has lines, so I want all the freaky chemicals. Also, if an eye cream is too slippery then your makeup will slide right off. As a concealer freak, my eye creams must be highly effective and also be relatively thick and absorb quickly. I'm happy to report this definitely fit the bill, and to test it out, I skipped my under-eye primer one day to see if my concealer would hold up over this eye creme, and it did!
I live in fear of night creams that will cause me to break out, mainly because I tend to over apply, but this guy comes with a handy little spatula that helps you scoop out exactly the right amount of cream that you need every night. Not only did it NOT cause any break outs, but my skin woke up feeling healthier every single morning after using it. It was smoother and softer, as if I had slept with a moisturizing mask on. I was extremely pleased.
I've mentioned before that I am on the hunt for a daily moisturizer that has sun protection in it and doesn't feel like sunscreen, and this is as close to perfect that I've gotten in a while. It is slightly heavier than I would prefer to use during the day, but I got used to the weight of it the more that I used it. After a couple days I didn't even notice it, and though it does have a slight sunscreen smell when you initially apply it, it didn't linger. It also acted as a nice primer, as my makeup went on smoothly after applying it and stayed put throughout the day!
The kit is definitely waaaaaay pricey, but if you have the dollars to shell out for it I highly recommend it. It packs a punch and as truly effective. If you're over 30 and looking to spend your cash on a good anti-aging line, this is it. It has everything you need and since you only use a tiny bit at a time it will likely last you a while, making it a worthwhile investment. If you're a poor, such as myself, I would save up for that serum. Or maybe the night cream. Dammit I can't decide. I'm so glad I got to try these, they are definitely going into my skincare regime! Have you ever tried any Arbonne products? Seriously, their code of ethics is baller and I really appreciate the transparency. I wouldn't even consider myself someone who is hardcore about needing "toxin-free" cosmetics, but I really, really appreciate it when products are. So why not snag them when you see them? If we're gonna be slathering our faces with money, might as well spend it on stuff that is good for the earth and our consciences.
