How was everyone's week? Mine was basically an experiment in seeing how many cold showers I can take in a single day (averaging at about three.) On Tuesday I was able to meet one of my idols, Caitlin Moran, and I'm happy to report she was even more luminous, hilarious, and kind than I ever could have possibly imagined. I can't wait to read her latest novel, How to Build a Girl.
Being a "retired actor," (insert eye-roll here) I usually play it real cool around celebs, especially when I'm with Theo. (Aside: Don't ask Theo about the time he introduced me to Bill Pullman. I lost my mind and I'm pretty sure he's still mad about it.) Anyhoo, I'm usually SUPER COOL around celebrities, but I really thought I was going to cry when I met Caitlin. I barely kept it together, as evidenced by this photograph. Her first book, How to Be a Woman, has been seminal in my feminist growth. It was the first book I read that truly put into words all the things I was trying to figure out about myself in my mid-twenties. Going to this reading and speaking to her afterwards was a true joy. And thank you Caitlin for teaching us how to make a feminist smile.
