Most likely you've heard of the skin-saving miracle properties of serums, as they've been touted as the new must-have beauty item for the past couple of years. If you're upwards of 30 and you haven't started using one, I'm here to tell you that it's time to get on that train! I'll be honest with you, serums are significantly more expensive than your average skincare product, but if you use a good one with regularity, there's no reason for you to be spending tons of money on anything else, and in fact, it may even replace one or two of your products entirely!
Serums are more expensive than say, creams, because the active ingredients are highly concentrated, and they target multiple skin issues such as fine lines, brightening skin, fighting acne, fading dark spots, and reducing signs of aging. After you cleanse and tone your skin, apply a thin layer of serum all over your face, allow it to absorb and then apply eye cream and moisturizer. You may find that your skin is hydrated enough just with the serum and be able to skip your night cream! I find that on particularly humid nights or when I'm battling oily skin, that just the serum and eye cream is enough for night time. And if I skip the serum, even if I still do all the other steps in my skincare routine, I can clearly see a difference in my skin. When I actually use it properly, I wake up with visibly brighter, more even, and smoother skin. It's just a no-brainer, you guys. It will seriously change they way your skin looks and feels, and you won't turn back.
I currently use Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate for night, and Kiehl's Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate for day, and I adore them both. I am more devoted to the Midnight Recovery Concentrate; I don't think I could ever stop using it, but I'm open to dabbling with other daytime serums. I would recommend both of them, however, especially to women in their late twenties who are just starting to use serums, as they are on the lower side of the typical serum price point. And both of these have lasted me upwards of 3 years and I've barely made a dent.
There are so many different serums out there, but here are just a few that I recommend!
This is definitely going to be my next daytime serum purchase. I've heard raves about it, everyone I've seen who uses it has the skin of a child. The perfect daytime serum for your thirties.
I will always worship at the alter of Mario Badescu for their awesome products and low price point. I would recommend this one for humans in their twenties who are dabbling with a more extensive beauty routine.
If you struggle with acne scars or dark spots, I would recommend this for you.
Perfect for individuals in their forties, it's a cult product for a reason: it truly gives you brighter and more youthful looking skin in weeks.
The holy grail of serums. If you are over 50 and you aren't using SK-II serums then you are straight trippin'. This is a no-joke product that is worth every penny and is the reason why women like Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep look their age while still looking radiant. (That and some truly brilliant dermatological work, OBVI. We aren't gullible fools here.) I wish I could fling this serum from the rooftops and shower every woman in the world with it, because it will change your life.
Remember that serums last a really long time, so you truly are making an investment in your skin when you purchase them. I don't think I could ever go back to a serum-less life. I know that if you try one, you'll agree. Pick one at a price point that you are comfortable with and know that you'll see a difference quickly. And the cool thing about serums is that the longer you use them, the more effective they become.
