I LOVE packing, you guys. There are few things as satisfying as a perfectly organized bag full of crisp, clean clothes ready to take you on an adventure. And I wholeheartedly believe the same for one's makeup bag. Your makeup bag should reflect the theme of your trip; there's no need to pack an eye shadow palette for a camping trip, but if you're going to a wedding, you're gonna want to bring your fancy brushes! I went to visit family in Boston, so I knew that save for one date night my overall look was going to be casual and natural. I decided to ditch any eye shadows, highlighters and fancy creams, figuring my skin would survive four days without it. So here's what I brought for my little getaway.
One of the many ways in which Stowaway is absolutely brilliant is that it contains everything you need for a face full of makeup in a tiny package. I decided to bring the kit as my makeup for the weekend. It includes a BB cream, rouge, eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick. It's the perfect put together yet natural look. For date night I swiped on the lipstick and voila! Fancy night out.
Whether you're traveling by plane, train, or automobile, keeping your skin moisturized is an absolute must. It doesn't matter where I go, but it always takes my skin a few days to get used to the new air and water situation, so I get dried out and a bit rashy. Glossier's Priming Moisturizer is super hydrating while also being extremely gentle, so I don't get oily or irritated. It feels really light on your skin, whether you use it alone or under makeup.
3. Josie Maran Argan Oil
I decided to keep my larger, pricier serums at home for the weekend and bring alone some trusty Josie Maran Argan Oil instead. It keeps your skin balanced, hydrated and supple. I used it under my moisturizer in the morning and at night after I washed my face. It's a tiny little bottle so it doesn't take up too much space, a must when traveling.
The one thing missing from the Stowaway kit is a brow brush, and I certainly wasn't going to neglect my eyebrows while I was away. They are very important people, you should be filling in your brows every day if you aren't already. They will make you look put together even when you have no other makeup on. I am using Brow Drama for now because it's cheap and effective, though there are tons of great brow brushes on the market today.
5. Trader Joe's Tea Tree Oil Wipes
I know I've raved about these before and i will again. These wipes clean your skin better than any other wipe out there, and the tea tree oil helps to get rid of any bacteria and gunk. It also doubles as a toner, so you can save yourself the trouble of bringing one of those on your trip. They're cheap, and you can get them while you do your groceries. What more needs to be said!
I can't live without it. It's an ancient Shu Uemera and I probably need to replace it soon.
8. Two Lippies
As you may have seen from my previous post on chapsticks and lip balms, I'm addicted and usually carry about five on my person at all times. In an effort to only have one makeup bag with me, I brought it down to two for this trip. Glossier's Coconut Balm Dot Com and Fresh Sugar Lip in Rose.
9. Philosophy Pure Grace perfume roller ball
As loyal as I am to my Lust by Lush, I wanted something a bit lighter and fresher for my weekend away. I have long been a devotee of Philosophy scents, and Pure Grace is one of my favorites.
And before I forget: when you are flying, ALWAYS keep your makeup bag in your carry-on bag. You do not want to be stranded somewhere without it. You never know what may happen. I would be really pissed if someone lost a bag full of my clothes, but I would be DEVASTATED if I lost all my favorite cosmetics. (This includes glasses and contacts.) Just a little tip from me to you!
