It looks like this hellscape of a city finally heard my pleas of desperation before I went as crazy as everyone on Game of Thrones is, because the sun came out today. Needless to say, after five minutes at the playground this morning I could feel my panic rising as I frantically applied then re-applied sunblock several times over the course of the single hour that I was there. There's always something to be freaking out about, guys.
I went over some of my favorite sunblocks for your babes in this post last year, and wanted to add some that work for adults as well. I certainly am pro-baby sunblock and use it all the time, specifically this one. I always have Acure's Baby Sun on my person. It's part of their Baby's Day Out three-pack, which I have on me at all times. (I can also vouch that the Baby Bug WORKS. And you know how I feel about mosquitos.) I love it because it's easy to smoosh on a baby, it fits in my bag, and doesn't smell too offensive. It is a bit white and you really have to work it in so it isn't streaky, but when I'm just hanging out with babies I don't really care. That said, I definitely don't always want baby products on me, and sometimes I need something that is less sticky and visible. So here are my favorite grown up sunblocks that you should pick up before the sun gets real nasty and I'm on here complaining about the heat.
All the healthy skinfood goodness of a serum WITH sunscreen combined in a lightweight formula that won't leave my skin greasy?! SIGN ME UP. Yes, it's a splurge for sure, but one that I know is worth it. Without a doubt this is my priority skincare purchase for the spring and summer. I love how lightweight it is; with all the humidity and heat, I turn into a sweaty grease-ball during the summer and having to layer on sunscreen under my makeup only makes it worse. I came upon this gem while getting a facial at Heyday last year and it changed my life.
This guy is really high quality sunscreen for a reasonable price tag and is perfect for slathering on without having a thick finish. It's lightweight and contains transparent zinc, it's really easily absorbed by your skin, layers well under makeup if you decide to do it on your face. I love the high SPF and the fact that it doesn't have a sunscreen-y smell to it.
This is a pretty fancy sunscreen, and it's got a weird consistency that might turn you off, but I highly recommend giving it a chance. It's slightly watery, which is bizarre at first but ultimately makes it easier to apply and spread all over your face. It's a serum in the same vein as the Supergoop one.
This guy is who you want to be wearing on your day at the beach. It's a sure-fire way to protect your skin. Sometimes I get nervous while wearing sunscreens that they aren't actually working, but I always feel confident that my skin is protected while wearing this one. My grandma gave me a bottle years ago and I never looked back. It has a thinner consistency than traditional sunscreens, so it's less sticky and not at all streaky. It feels like a grown up version of sunscreen.
The holy grail! Sunscreen combined with Bug Repellant. What more perfect thing can we possibly hope for during the summer of Zika! And it's super affordable, so there's really no excuse. It's DEET-free, moisturizing with aloe and Vitamin E, and it's not too greasy either. Perfect for going camping or wandering around the city or picnicking.
